A mid-year check-in (and some garden updates)

Happy solstice!

For me time is moving very quickly and also slowly. How is it almost July already? It feels like we just planted our garden and now we're eating from it. This salad was from our garden: Drunken Lady lettuce (she is frilly, droopy and unruly), greens, baby kale and nasturtium and chive flowers. Putting flowers in salad makes me feel like a fancy fairy.

The garden has been A Very Good Thing in my life. The snow peas are halfway up the trellis and there some that are ready to eat. The tomatoes are about to explode and the beans are growing so quickly. Two attempts at growing carrots have completely failed. The garden is a place where I get to slow down and practice noticing. It's also a place where I get to stick my hands in the dirt and get really grounded.

One of the practices I've been doing is to use all of my senses to experience summer. What does summer smell like? What does it taste like? How does it feel on my skin? What sights are quintessentially summer? As I'm writing the birds outside my window are having a loud conversation about something. Summer is their season.

How do you experience summer through your senses?

YearCompass: mid year boost

If you did YearCompass now is a great time to dig it out and check in with what you were dreaming for yourself this year.

After I found mine (which took a minute), I went through and:

  • circled the bits that have happened or are true
  • crossed out the parts that don't resonate for me anymore
  • edited the bits that are a little different now

I forgot some of the intentions I set in January. I was surprised at how many of the things I desired are part of my life. I also saw that two areas of my life where I wanted to make some shifts are totally stagnant. These things are still important to me, so I'm making a plan on how I want to move forward. I have 6 months left!

On July 15th, Em House and I are also hosting a one hour live session to check in and recommit to your intentions for the rest of the year.

Stuff for coaches

Coaches' Summer Camp

Next month I'm doing Protocamp, a prototype for Coaches' Summer Camp with the rest of the organizing team: Val Fleming and Shawn Carney and Rehman Ali. We're doing Protocamp to learn what's it like to design and host a 4 day in-person camp for coaches.

Our goal is to:

Fill up with that childlike sense of awe, wonder and joy in a connected and communal experience of play and rest

If that sounds fun to you, please subscribe to our newsletter. We'll be sending emails every couple of months about what we're learning and what we're planning. Folks on the mailing list will get first dibs when we open registration for a larger camp next year.

Coaches' BBQ - save the date

This year's Coaches' BBQ will be on October 23. This will be the sixth one!

It's a free, online, unconference type gathering for coaches. We create space for multiple programming tracks and people sign up to lead a 50 minute session, host a discussion or whatever your heart desires.

Three things that are important the organizing team (Jeff Jacobson, Autumn Wade, Art Benoit and me) are:

  1. Not gatekeeping credentials. There's lots of types of coaches. Some have ICF credentials, some don't. All are welcome.
  2. Having space for new presenters to lead something. We felt proud to hear that a first time presenter took her idea and turned it into a paid workshop after.
  3. Fun and learning.

Costumes optional, good conversation mandatory.

Other ways to work with me

  • 1:1 coaching — 3 or 6 month packages. Book a free chemistry call to see if we're a fit.
  • Team offsites — I design and facilitate in-person experiences for teams. I'm actively looking to do more of this, especially in person. Reply with the basics (who, what, when) and let's talk.
  • Speaking — keynotes, panels, fireside chats. I'm booking events for Pride this year. I'm a strong interviewer if you need someone to draw out a great conversation. Here's my current keynote on leadership and values.
  • Inclusion consulting — strategy, thought partnership, and culture work for organizations building high-performance inclusive workplaces. Reach out here.
