My go-to form of procrastination is sorting and cleaning.
This is the after photo of my Tupperware drawer. I got rid of the containers that were missing lids, or the lids that no longer had bottoms. I carefully wiped out all the crumbs. For the true Order Muppets I imagine there's still more arranging you would do. The blue container on the left side is still a little messy, but you should've seen the before!
I was procrastinating working on my book proposal. The voices of my inner critics have been LOUD. Mine are saying "You're not a good writer." and "Who are you to think you can write a book?" (the tone of this voice is cold, sneering and mocking).
So, what's this book about anyway?
I am going to interview leaders, who inspire me, to hear what their core values are. Our values are so important. In this age of automate-this and AI-that, they are more important than ever.
My dream list of people I want to talk to is slightly audacious and includes:
Who is on your dream list of leaders to interview? Reply and let me know!
(I work well with deadlines so I set one and I'm telling you to create some accountability for myself.)
Recommendations
For Dolly fans
I am a huge fan of Dolly's. Like most of the world I was really sad to hear that she had died. When I saw her in concert I was blown away by how good she was and how hard she worked. I was also blown away by the diversity of her fan base: old timey Country Western fans, middle aged drag queens and a lot of queer people. This podcast Dolly Parton's America: The story of a legend at the crossroads of America’s culture wars is one of my favourite podcasts and gets into that topic and more.*
* Jad Abumrad is the creator and host and is brilliant. He was also the host of Radiolab and I've just started Fela Kuti: Fear No Man.
For white people
I really appreciate Marika Heinrichs' voice. She is a white somatic practitioner and facilitator in racial and healing justice movement spaces. In September she's offering a workshop titled Anatomy of the Void: Whiteness, Belonging, and the Roots of Domination with Stevie Moss.
To learn more about her work, check out Lost Together Podcast, a podcast about responding to the political and ecological crises of our times through the lens of relationship.
For coaches
I'm part of team that's building an in-person summer camp for coaches. Camp will be a place to fill up with that childlike sense of awe, wonder and joy in a connected and communal experience of play and rest. As coaches we hold space for our clients. We want to create a space where we can be held too.
We’re building in public on our Substack. To our knowledge no one has created a camp for coaches before. If there are learnings from what we did (or didn’t do, or screwed up doing) that can help someone else, great!
Coaches' Summer Camp will be happening Summer 2027 near Vancouver, Canada. If this sparks something in you, subscribe to our Substack.
Other ways to work with me
- 1:1 coaching — 3 or 6 month packages. Book a free chemistry call to see if we're a fit. Your workplace might have professional development funds you can use, or you might ask your manager to invest in you.
- Team offsites — I design and facilitate in-person experiences for teams. I'm actively looking to do more of this, especially in person. Reply with the basics (who, what, when) and let's talk.
- Speaking — keynotes, panels, fireside chats. I'm a strong interviewer if you need someone to draw out a great conversation. Here's my current keynote on leadership and values.
- Inclusion consulting — strategy, thought partnership, and culture work for organizations building high-performance inclusive workplaces. Reach out here.
